This beautiful setting represents life in the early 1800s and brings the legacy of Daniel Boone to life. Within the thick limestone walls, stories of a daring man offer a glimpse into family matters, risky adventures and hard-fought battles. (Must register/pay by Feb 16th.)

Field Trip: Historic Daniel Boone Home-Pioneer Skills Program

Date: Tuesday, March 14 (close registration on Feb 16, 58 people max)

Time: Arrive at 9:45am / Program 10am-12pm

*Dress for the weather.

Please be aware, only students second grade and up will be able to participate in the Pioneer skills. Students will get to experience four pioneer skills stations including a tour of the Daniel Boone home. Stations include:

  1. Animal Signs:  Being aware of surroundings and animal behavior was important to the pioneers for safety, food, and trade. Students examine tracks and participate in a game exploring animal food chains.
  2. Black Powder: The flint lock long rifle was a necessary tool used for protection, acquiring food sources, and increasing income for frontiersmen like Daniel Boone. Students will see the many steps it takes to fire a blackpowder rifle demonstrated.
  3. Boone Home Tour:  Tour the Boone Home and learn about the Boone’s journey to Missouri. Themes center on historic construction, family life, and children’s roles.
  4. Fire Starting:  Students will learn the importance of fire for survival and comfort while watching a demonstration. Each participant takes home an ingenious pioneer device called a “spill”, used to light candles and lanterns.

Price:

$8/person for adults or children with under 5 free

Tickets are non-refundable unless Daniel Boone cancels event. 

Weather permitting, we can bring a sack lunch and eat at their pavilion.
